Winey Tasting Notes: Invitation Wines by Chateau Souverain Chardonnay

Ever have a wine that you keep seeing over and over and every time you see it you say, “Oh I’ll try it someday?” That’s my story with Invitation Wines by Chateau Souverain. I have seen it in grocery stores, wine stores and big box stores alike. So I finally pulled to cork and decided to try some. I was in the mood for white wine, the Chardonnay was staring me in the cart, so I grabbed some.

It didn’t hurt that the price was about $10 either.

If you try to find some history on Invitation Wines you’ll discover that they are a part of Chateau Souverain, which is in turn owned by EJ Gallo winery, a HUGE wine company that now owns some of my favorite wines. You can check them all out on the website, but for now let’s talk about Invitation Chardonnay (2020,12.5% ABV, California).

The wine is a translucent yellow in color and the first characteristic you’ll sniff is yellow apple followed by ripe yellow pear. The taste starts out with cream and moves on to apple and cinnamon. It’s creamy and smooth in the mouth but not overly thick and creamy – just a nice feel of round flavor.

I really liked this wine! But then again, I do love a nice oaky, creamy Chardonnay. (I have some winey friends who make the barfing noise at the though of such Chardonnays. I will not forsake them because of this. I will however, steal their wine if I ever get the chance.)

This is a good solid Chardonnay at a really nice price. I’d definitely buy it again and if you need to stock up for a winey evening, this is a great one to have on hand.
