The Winey Hubby’s golf haul: Cavit Pinot Grigio

Let’s start with a simple fact: The Winey Hubby is a golfer. According to him though, he never golfs enough and never golfs well. “It was ok (meaning his game).” And then later he’ll mention the three birdies in a row he got on the back 9. Whatever.

Cavit Pinot Grigio

Aside from the golf games with his buddies, there is the occasional outing. The most recent of these was a memorial outing to honor a former high school classmate. Outings come with food and prizes. Normally, he would hope for golf balls, golf gift cards, tickets to baseball or football games and so on as a prize.

Ok let me stop here and announce that even though I call him The Winey Hubby, wine is NOT his drink of choice. He’s a cherry coke guy through and through.

So imagine my delight when he came home from the above mentioned outing with three bottles of wine!!! Those were his winnings in the raffle. (The look on his face when he had to tell me that was his haul from the day…..) I however, rejoiced. (This moment is closely related to an outing of a few years ago, when he came home with a prize he’d won in a raffle: a Pampered Chef basket. Needless to say, I was thrilled….him, yeah, not so much.)

One of those bottles was Cavit Pinot Grigio (12% ABV, 2019, Italy). It comes to us from the Dolomite Alp region of Italy, an area well known and celebrated for its Pinot Grigios. (You’ll see Delle Venezie on the label, which is the Italian wine region it’s from – now called Trevenezie IGT or Indicazione Geografica Tipica. (click this link for a good explanation of these terms).

The nose on this wine was minerals with a hint of white flowers.

Upon that first sip, there were flavors of peach, then pear with a little apple. The finish was tart, juicy minerals. Oh so refreshing and oh so perfectly hitting that hole in one in terms of acidity. (See what I did there?)

The wine was tart yes, but not so tart that you’d pucker up – instead the tartness just let you taste all the flavors. There was a hint of sweetness that kept that puckery-ness (I may have made that word up) from overwhelming your mouth.

I loved this wine – it’s an easy crowd-pleaser and a great choice for summer nights. Pair it with seafood, grilled chicken, appetizers and/or a nice big bonfire and you’ve got the perfect Pinot Grigio experience.

Cheers!
