Missing Canada with Henry of Pelham Rosé

So sure, we’re all getting back to normal-ish now that COVID vaccines are rolling out. The Winey Family has traveled to the Winey Son’s wedding (more on that to come), our neighborhood is having summer get-togethers again, maskne is starting to clear up (kind of).

But there is one thing that has not gone back to normal in The Winey Household: our visits to the family beach houses in Canada.

Background: The Winey Hubby’s family has been visiting this particular beach. along the shores of Lake Huron, for about a century. No kidding. In fact, The Winey Hubby has been going up there since before he was born (he’s #4 out of 5 kids). It’s a place to reconnect with the cousins, take off your shoes, put on your shorts and a t-shirt and just totally and utterly relax. We have been taking our Winey Children there for many years…and we all just love it.

Seriously, this is our view

But alas, COVID closed the border between the US and Canada in 2020 and it’s looking more and more like it’ll remain closed through the summer of 2021. Right now, it’s closed to us through the end of July with a monthly update to come.

But just because we can’t hit the beach doesn’t mean we have to forgo Canada completely. Not when the Niagara Peninsula is there to provide us with wine!! The Niagara Peninsula is Canada’s largest producing wine producing region and they do it so well. When we’re at the beach we are sipping on some wonderful wines! (Here are some others for you to check out.)

So as summer began here in Ohio, I was so happy to find a Canadian Rosé at a local store: Henry of Pelham’s Family Estate 2020 Rosé, 11.5%ABV. Into my cart it went.

This rosé is a blend of some of the area’s best known grapes: 43% Pinot Noir, 28% Riesling, 25% Gamay Noir and 4% Pinot Gris.

You’ll start with a nose of berries and roses. This is followed by the flavors of strawberry, kiwi with a hint of minerals. The wine is crisp and refreshing and truly has something for everyone. The Pinot Noir grapes bring that classic hint of red, the Riesling adds a touch of sweetness without sacrificing the refreshing acidity. A yummy tart finish rounds it all off.

Oh my heavens – I love this rosé (could you tell?). I have already gone and bought more and I’m a bit worried that I may be accused of stockpiling given my future shopping plans for this wine. (But then again, we call it collecting, not hoarding, right?)

Sip this on its own or with any summery dish you can think of. It is a friendly wine that will pair well with lost of different foods.
