Winey Tasting Notes: Big Churn Chardonnay

There is a certain level of trust that I share with The Winey Daughter. I trust that she will tell me if I need to change parts – or all – of an outfit. (Even if I don’t always ask.) I trust she will alert me if I have spinach in my teeth. I trust that she will never ever, ever forget to send me her birthday/Christmas list (the two days are not far apart, so it’s normally a massive list). I also trust that she can listen to my description in a phone call and buy me a yummy bottle of wine.

Such was the case recently when I sent her to Trader Joe’s with instructions to “buy Mommy wine.” She knows me well enough to comprehend that when she hears those words, it is not an optional mission. There she stood in the wine section….knowing I had asked for a Chardonnay. In her defense, she made it to the Chardonnays. And that’s where she pulled out the cell and called me. “There are lots of them. What do you want?” “I want a classic Chardonnay, smoother and rounder.” “Huh?” “Look for something that has oak and butter in it.” “Oh, how about one with a butter churn on it?”

And that is how, Winey Friends, I tasted Big Churn Chardonnay (2019, 14.5%, California).

The wine is a bright, translucent gold color that gives off aromas of fresh white grapes. You’ll taste cream, oak and cinnamon. The wine is oh so smooth and rich and full of flavor. Anyone on Team Oak and Team Butter will just love it. It got a “WOW” in my tasting notes.

If you aren’t on Team Oak or Team butter, don’t say I didn’t warn you. If you are, grab a bottle (in Ohio we paid about $7) or a case or whatever your level of need/want is. It varies, I get it.

This was one of my best over-the-phone-with-a-Winey-offspring buys ever.
